How To Make Cannabis E-liquid At Home

Vaping is the new smoking. Okay, some cannabis lovers will always smoke the herb. But some users are ditching tar, carbon monoxide, and carcinogens for a cleaner hit of cannabinoids. Instead of combustion, vaporizers use convection heating, conduction heating, or a combination of both to release cannabinoids and terpenes into an inhalable vapor.

This is easier on the lungs, far more tasty, and a lot more discreet than walking around with a joint. Vaporizers are available in both desktop and portable models. Vape pens are the stealthiest option and the easiest to carry around. These sleek and futuristic devices can vaporize both herb and extracts, depending on the model. In this article, you’ll learn how to make your own stash of cannabis e-liquid to use with your vape pen.

WHAT IS E-LIQUID?

E-liquid, otherwise known as vape juice, is traditionally a nicotine-containing product. However, cannabis users have put their own spin on things. Both THC and CBD e-liquids (with accompanying terpenes) are available, and feature a base of either propylene glycol (PG) or vegetable glycerin (VG).

PG is a colourless and odourless organic compound. It’s not very viscous, which makes things easier when it comes to refilling cartridges and cleaning your device. VG is a completely natural liquid derived from plant oils. It’s also odourless, yet has a slightly sweet taste. It’s much more viscous than PG. It’s not ideal for cleaning, but it produces thick, satisfying clouds of vapor.

Natural and artificial food-grade flavourings are also typically added to create an array of flavours—anything from candy and mint to fruits. E-liquid is then loaded into the tank of an e-cigarette or vaporizer and heated to anywhere between 90–200°C. Devices will need to be set to around 157°C to effectively evaporate THC, whereas CBD requires slightly higher temperatures of between 160–180°C.

USING E-LIQUIDS IN VAPE PENS

Vape pens represent the pinnacle of portability. These sleek devices feature similar technology to desktop vapes, just condensed into a pocket-friendly design. They share an appearance with standard pens and are therefore easy to store and conceal. Vape pens are composed of two main parts: the cartridge, and the battery. Cheaper, disposable vape pens come with pre-filled cartridges. However, more expensive models allow users to refill cartridges with their own product.

Vape pens are ideal for vaporizing high-potency extracts such as THC-enriched e-liquid or distillate. A single hit can provide just as much THC as an entire joint, with much less effort. There’s no need to carry around a container of buds, rolling papers, and a lighter. Just hit the pen and enjoy the ride.

WHY MAKE YOUR OWN E-LIQUID?

Learning to make your own e-liquid is a worthwhile endeavour. It offers the same level of satisfaction as cooking your own edibles or crafting your own extracts and tinctures. Making e-liquid at home also contributes to peace of mind. You’ll know exactly what you’re inhaling with every hit.

Store-bought e-liquid from unreliable companies can become contaminated in the same way that cannabis flowers can be laden with pesticides. There’s no way to tell exactly what’s inside a formula unless you get it tested at a lab—or simply make it yourself. You’ll also save money if you buy what you need in bulk or grow your own buds.

How to Make E-liquid at home

QUALITY INGREDIENTS ARE ESSENTIAL

Take your time to grow and gather the best supplies you can find. By starting out with the best materials possible, you’ll achieve the best outcome. There’s little point in going through the whole process to produce something substandard. Spend some time identifying the ideal source of VG and the best cannabis flowers you can get your hands on. Even better, you can grow your own. Check out these ten amazing strains with high THC levels and unmatched flavours to start you off on the right foot.

HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN THC E-LIQUID

Now that you know the benefits of making your own vape juice, let’s get into the nitty-gritty. It’s time to make your own! As with almost anything to do with cannabis, there’s more than one way to skin this cat. Below, we’ll talk you through three of the easiest methods.

ROSIN EXTRACTION

Using rosin to make your own vape juice is the cleanest and quickest method. Rosin, by nature, is a low-risk extract. There are no solvents or harsh chemicals used in the process. It’s simply a matter of applying a bit of heat and pressure to extract the resin. You can use buds to make rosin if you have enough resinous flowers to hand. If not, you can press rosin from concentrates such as BHO wax.

EQUIPMENT

  • Dried cannabis flowers
  • Hair straightener(s)
  • Parchment paper
  • Small glass vial
  • Syringe
  • Natural flavouring or terpenes
  • Toothpick
  • Lighter

DIRECTIONS

STEP ONE

To begin, select a few plump and resinous buds from your stash and sandwich them in parchment paper. Turn on your hair straighteners and set them to a temperature of around 121°C. If your hair straighteners don’t have this low of a setting, heat them up and unplug them until they become slightly cooler.

STEP TWO

Place the wrapped buds between the hair straightener irons and apply significant pressure. Keep applying force as the resin oozes out of the flowers. Release the irons when the goo stops flowing. Unwrap the pressed buds to reveal a fresh patch of rosin. Repeat this process until you’ve made around 0.5g of rosin. You’ll need around 3g of high-quality herb to achieve this amount.

STEP THREE

Place the rosin-covered parchment paper into the fridge for around 20 minutes. Remove your cooled bounty and scrape off the rosin using a sturdy toothpick; place it in the glass vial. Add a few drops of your preferred terpenes or flavouring into the jar.

STEP FOUR

Next, you’ll need to mix your rosin and flavouring into an oil. To do this, you’ll need to flash heat the vial. Hold a flame underneath the container for around five seconds, or until the solution begins to bubble. Any less and the two substances won’t mix. Any more, and you’ll degrade the volatile terpenes. As soon as the mixture starts to bubble, remove the flame and give it a good mix using a toothpick. Then, draw the solution into a syringe and inject it into your vape pen cartridge.

Rosin Cannabis Oil

VEGETABLE GLYCERIN (SHORT-TERM)

This is another fast method for cannabis users looking for an instant supply of vape juice. It’s a relatively easy method that requires breaking up buds, mixing them with VG, and applying heat.

EQUIPMENT

  • Raw cannabis flowers
  • Food-grade VG
  • Vegetable oil
  • Small Pyrex dish
  • Large Pyrex dish
  • Glass jar x2
  • Stove
  • Thermometer x2
  • Sieve
  • Cheesecloth
  • Rubber spatula
  • Metal spoon

DIRECTIONS

STEP ONE

It’s time to get sticky. Tear apart your flowers with your bare hands and place the small pieces into a small Pyrex dish. Pour a small amount of VG into the dish and stir. Keep adding small amounts until the pieces are saturated, without the mixture becoming too thin.

STEP TWO

Pour the vegetable oil into the large Pyrex dish—enough to submerge the bottom inch of the small Pyrex dish. Place the oil on the stove or a hot plate and place the thermometer sensor inside. Heat the mixture up to a temperature of 104°C.

STEP THREE

Place the small Pyrex dish into the hot oil bath and insert the second thermometer into the mix of VG and broken-down buds. The aim is to heat the solution to around 82°C to allow the cannabinoids to diffuse into the VG. Maintain this temperature for 45 minutes and stir the mixture frequently.

STEP FOUR

Remove the small Pyrex dish from the oil bath and let it cool for several minutes. Next, place a sieve over a glass jar to strain the mixture. Use a spatula to press the bud against the sieve to extract as much liquid as possible. Repeat steps two and three a total of two times to extract as much THC as possible, using fresh VG each time.

STEP FIVE

Now that you’ve collected three runs in the glass jar, it’s time to purify your vape juice. Clean and dry your sieve; place it over a clean glass jar and add around four layers of cheesecloth. Pour your vape juice onto the cheesecloth and watch it filter through into the jar. Use the spatula to squeeze out any residue.

STEP SIX

Add your purified vape juice back into the small Pyrex dish. Heat up the oil bath and place the small Pyrex dish inside. Insert your thermometer and heat up the vape juice to exactly 104°C for 30 minutes. This will convert precursor cannabinoid THCA into psychoactive THC via decarboxylation.

STEP SEVEN

You’re all done! Use a dropper bottle or syringe to load up your vape pen cartridge with clean and potent vape juice!

VEGETABLE GLYCERIN (LONG-TERM)

Patient weed lovers are rare animals, indeed. If you happen to be one, this simple method is for you. It doesn’t use high temperatures. Instead, a long period of time allows the cannabinoids to diffuse into the mixture.

EQUIPMENT

  • Cannabis buds
  • Food-grade VG
  • Heat safe Pyrex bowl
  • Aluminium foil
  • Baking tray
  • Oven
  • Mason jar x2
  • Metal spoon
  • Sieve
  • Rubber spatula
  • Cheesecloth
  • Freezer

DIRECTIONS

STEP 1

Break up your flowers into small chunks using your hands or a pair of scissors. Avoid grinding them. If the pieces are too fine, they’ll make it through the filtration process.

STEP 2

Line a baking tray with aluminium foil and spread your plant material evenly over the surface. Preheat the oven to 121°C. Place your buds inside to decarboxylate for 30 minutes. Remove them and allow to cool.

STEP 3

Place your buds into a mason jar. Add a small amount of VG and stir. Keep adding VG until the mixture is clumpy and thick. Stop before the mixture becomes too liquidy and thin. Screw the lid on, label with the date, and store for one month (we told you it’d take a while).

STEP 4

After one month, remove the lid and stir the mixture well. Add a tablespoon of VG, stir again, and return to storage for another month. Repeat this process again one month later.

STEP 5

At the end of the third month, stir the mixture and strain through a sieve into another mason jar. Use the spatula to assist the process. Clean the sieve and original jar. Line the sieve with four layers of cheesecloth and strain the vape juice back into the original jar. Press out any residue with the spatula.

STEP 6

Use a syringe to add your vape juice into a cartridge—enjoy!

Royal Queen Seeds Cannabis E-liquids

YOU CAN ALSO TRY CBD E-LIQUIDS

Vaping e-liquids isn’t limited to getting stoned. Medicinal and recreational users can also vape them to enjoy the clear-headed and relaxing effects of CBD. CBD e-liquid is non-psychotropic, elevates the mood, and calms the nerves. It’s great before public speaking, meetings, social gatherings, or sleep. You can also purchase pre-made CBD e-liquid if you don’t fancy making your own.

SAFETY IS PARAMOUNT

Making e-liquids at home is easy, but it isn’t without risk. Working with hot oil can be extremely dangerous, so handle with care. Also, you must ensure that all of the ingredients you use are food-grade and certified. There’s a lot of dodgy products out there, so do your research and shop with care. If you use common sense and take the right safety precautions, you’ll have your own stash of vape juice in no time.

What Is Terp Sauce And How Is It Made?

All you need to know about terp sauce.

Contents:

The cannabis world is known for its ever-expanding markets and exponential rate of innovation. There’s a constant flow of emerging products—things to inhale and different ways to inhale them. Breeders, extractors, and seed banks have created a domain of healthy competition that has set a feedback loop into motion. As a result, pioneers within the industry are continually producing the “next best things”.

Cannabis concentrates are a massive part of the industry. These inhalables started life as crude creations, and have evolved into pure, high-potency substances crafted in state of the art facilities. Among these elite concentrates, a few stand out as being the gold standard. Terp sauce is one such creation. This clean and tasty extract is a mix of aromatic terpenes and pure THCA crystals. It’s risen through the ranks to emerge as one of the most potent and popular extracts on the market.

THE DIVERSE WORLD OF CANNABIS CONCENTRATES

Cannabis concentrates are exactly as they sound. They’re homogeneous masses of the active constituents within the cannabis plant. This gives them an appeal over raw flowers in terms of purity, quality, and potency. Concentrates and extracts are largely the same, but differ in one key area. All extracts are concentrates, in that they feature high concentrations of cannabinoids and/or terpenes. However, not all concentrates are extracts. This is because extracts use solvents to dissolve the desired substances into a solution.

Humans have indulged in cannabis concentrates for thousands of years. Charas and hash are some of the oldest forms. Both are created by rubbing the trichomes off of fresh or dried cannabis flowers. Dry sift hash—or kief—is another basic form of concentrate. It involves sieving dried cannabis flowers to dislodge trichomes into a collection tray.

Modern technology has given rise to a host of different concentrates that outweigh these traditional options when it comes to potency. These include solvent concentrates such as shatter, CO₂ oil, butane hash oil (BHO), Rick Simpson oil (RSO), and live resin. Some of the most popular solventless extracts include rosin, distillate, and bubble hash.

WHAT IS TERP SAUCE?

Terp sauce falls into the solvent concentrates category. Crafters typically make it using flash-frozen cannabis buds—but the most important aspect is to start with the best genetics possible. The flowers are first made into BHO and then left to age and crystallise. The end result is a viscious terpene sauce that engulfs diamond-like THCA crystals.

Terp sauce has become so popular thanks to the rise of terpenes themselves. Cannabinoids were once the be-all and end-all when smoking weed. However, science has unveiled the importance of terpenes and how they modify the effects of cannabis. Users are seeking higher levels of terpenes to enrich the taste of their experience, as well as the effects.

Terpenes are volatile molecules that possess relatively low boiling points. Certain extraction techniques can cause them to evaporate. Luckily, terp sauce is a different story. It involves a technique that preserves these precious molecules—the end product is highly aromatic.

Terp sauce is also extremely potent. High levels of THCA crystals decarboxylate when exposed to heat. They convert to THC, which goes on to produce a powerful psychoactive effect. Let’s explore exactly how terp sauce is created.

RELATED STORY

What is THC?

HOW IS TERP SAUCE MADE?

To begin with, a high-quality strain is required. The more THCA and terpenes present in the starting material, the better the end product will be.

Terp sauce makers tend to use fresh flowers to first make live resin—a connoisseur-grade extract that preserves flavour and aroma. Flash-freezing buds before butane extraction prevents the loss of terpenes. It’s easy to see why live resin makes for higher-quality terp sauce than using cured buds.

The extract then needs to be lightly purged with gentle heat to off-gas the majority of the solvent. Next, the extract is poured into a mason jar while still viscous. Jars are stored in an environment slightly above room temperature.

Pressure will start to build in the jars, and THCA crystals will start to form. These heavy objects sink to the bottom of the jar, while the terpenes rise and begin to form a gooey layer of soup at the top. This process takes around 2–3 weeks.

The terpenes and crystals are then separated and purged. The terps are purged for around 60 hours, and the crystals for 72 hours. Once all the solvent has been removed, the crystals and terps and reunited and packed into UV-proof containers. The end result is a sauce rich in terpenes with a cannabinoid content of anywhere between 30–50%.

HOW IS TERP SAUCE MADE?

HTFSE VS HCFSE

Cannabis extracts belong to two categories: high-terpene full-spectrum extracts (HTFSEs) and high-cannabinoid full-spectrum extracts (HCFSEs). HTFSEs consist of around 50% THCA and anywhere between 13–40% terpenes. In contrast, HCFSEs consist of around 90% THCA and far fewer terps.

THE IMPORTANCE OF FULL SPECTRUM

Colossal levels of cannabinoids used to be all the rage. Nowadays, terpenes are also held in high regard. It’s now known that terpenes play a large role in the psychoactive and therapeutic effects of particular strains. They dictate whether a variety will be stimulating or sedating, and also provide profound anti-inflammatory and anti-anxiety effects. For this reason, many cannabis users prefer HTFSEs like terp sauce. What’s more, cannabinoids and terpenes may even synergise through a phenomenon known as the entourage effect.

HOW TO MAKE TERP SAUCE AT HOME

Now you know what terp sauce is and why it’s so special, it’s time to make your own. We’re going to walk you through a slightly different procedure than the one mentioned above. We’ll be using rosin to avoid handling potentially dangerous solvents.

EQUIPMENT

· Rosin press
· Rosin filter bags (between 27–35 micron)
· Parchment paper
· Heating mat

DIRECTIONS

STEP 1

Once you’ve made a batch of rosin, you’ll need to achieve a waxy texture. By pressing rosin from bubble hash, you’ll experience this consistency right away. If you’re using rosin pressed from flowers, stir it over a heating mat at no higher than 50ºC. Unfortunately, some terpenes will evaporate at this temperature. However, the rosin will develop a nice, buttery consistency.

STEP 2

Next, we need to prep the rosin for the separation process. Pack your rosin in a rosin bag; 25 micron is ideal, but 37 will work. Wrap the bag up tightly in a piece of parchment paper. Leave one end of the package open.

STEP 3

Set up you rosin press to around 55ºC. Place your wrapped rosin inside with the open end facing you. Lower the press down so it makes contact with the package. Wait around 60 seconds for the heat of the plate to warm up the resin. Now, apply gentle and slow pressure. Maintain this level of pressure until the plates are closed, and terpene-rich rosin begins oozing out. Keep applying pressure until the sauce stops flowing.

STEP 4

Open the plates, remove the contents, and open the package. The pressed concentrate will stick to the parchment paper. Remove the paper and wrap the loaded rosin bag in a fresh sheet. Press the package again using the same technique, this time at around 80ºC. Remove the parchment. Upon opening the rosin bag, you’ll discover a yellow-white block of THCA.

HOW TO MAKE TERP SAUCE AT HOME

STEP 5

Place the THCA on a sheet of parchment paper and heat it over the plates without adding pressure. The substance will become liquid at around 120ºC. After it cools, break it up into chunky crystals.

STEP 6

Lightly heat up the terpene-rich goo that you pressed out earlier. Once it becomes viscious, add it to your THCA crystals. There you have it! Your own stash of terp sauce seasoned with THCA crystals!

INCONSISTENCIES WITH TERP SAUCE

The biggest problem with terp sauce is a lack of consistency. It’s all too easy to substitute terp sauce for a similarly runny, syrupy cannabis concentrate. Ageing slabs of shatter that have been sitting in the coffeeshop or cannabis club too long will change consistency over time. Eventually, it begins to break down and look like sauce, especially during the hot summer weather.

Worse still, the best dispensaries in the US can’t maintain a consistent product. Other full-spectrum extracts like HCFSE can turn out looking more like terp sauce than the genuine article. Nobody really has a good explanation of why sometimes a batch of perfect terp sauce can change from applesauce to iceberg crystals floating in oil, and vice versa.

WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TERP SAUCE AND LIVE RESIN?

By nature, terp sauce and live resin achieve similar end products. Indeed, most terp sauce-makers use live resin to preserve the aroma and flavour of a given strain. Where things start to differ is in the post-extraction process. Whereas live resin is pretty much done, terp sauce now has to go through the vital curing and separation process outlined above. Because of this, the flavour and potency of terp sauce is enhanced even further than with traditional live resin. For more information on live resin, check out our blog post on the subject.

IS TERP SAUCE WORTH IT?

It’s no secret that making terp sauce is involved. A rosin press is an investment in itself. Plus, you’ll need plenty of high-quality flowers to make enough BHO or rosin. Indeed, terp sauce is among the most expensive items in cannabis clubs and dispensaries.

However, the investment is worth it for some cannabis users. A hit of terp sauce delivers a massive quantity of THC and synergistic terpenes. If you’re a veteran smoker—or have found that it gives you substantial therapeutic relief—terp sauce is worth the effort.

Flavourful Combinations For Your Cannabis Dinner Party

Flavourful Combinations For Your Cannabis Dinner Party

Source: https://www.royalqueenseeds.com

This is a blog article from .royalqueenseeds.com

Cannabis is a social substance. Nothing beats sitting around and smoking with friends—apart from enjoying a dinner party with them! Treat your fellow cannabis lovers to a night they might not remember by cooking up a THC-loaded storm.

WHY CONSIDER PAIRING CANNABIS WITH DIFFERENT FOODS?

Cannabis is more than a psychoactive substance. It’s a culinary herb that ranks among the likes of rosemary and thyme. Cannabis flowers produce complex terpene profiles and punchy flavours. Some cultivars produce sweet notes of fruit or chocolate; others hit the tongue with savoury tastes of earth and pine. Brownies and space cakes have been the go-to cannabis edibles for decades, but modern cannabis chefs are now infusing cannabinoids and terpenes into just about anything; from pasta to salad dressings!

The enormous diversity in terpene profiles allows cooks to get creative in the kitchen. Different strains go well with different meals. Does that stash jar tickle the nose with hints of fruit? Then infuse it in a cheesecake! Does it reak of diesel and wood? Harness those rich tastes in a hearty soup.

Not only does cannabis-infused food taste superb, it’s also more psychoactive! Edible cannabis takes longer to take effect, but provides a more potent experience. This is because THC must first pass through the digestive system. It’s then converted into 11-hydroxy-THC before passing through the blood-brain barrier. This powerhouse molecule is responsible for the amplified effects.

Now, let’s treat your smoking crew to a psychoactive smorgasbord. To start things off, you’ll need to plan your menu.

PLAN YOUR MENU BASED AROUND YOUR FAVOURITE FOODS

There are no strict rules to follow when creating your menu. You could stick to a theme—cuisine from a certain region—or serve up a mixed bag of cultural delights. Regardless of what you treat your guests to, it’ll help to have some kind of structure. Are you going to dish out a three-course meal or offer a free-for-all buffet? In the case of the former, you’ll need to plan out a starter, main course, and dessert.

Before you start spinning pizza bases and chopping veg like Gordon Ramsey, make sure you have your extracts ready. Cannabutter is an easy extract to make and can be added to almost any dish imaginable. If you’re prepping meals for vegan guests, whip up a batch of cannabis-infused coconut oil instead.

The main focus of your menu should be taste! Incorporate your favourite foods and give them a psychoactive twist. Here are a few suggestions to start with.

  • STONER-FRIENDLY STARTERS

Open strong with a weed-infused appetiser. This psychoactive vinaigrette kicks any salad up a notch, and will impress guests with its instant class. In the colder months, any number of soups are delicious and simple to prepare. For a similar, summer-friendly option, try a cool gazpacho made with cannabis-infused oil.

PLAN YOUR MENU BASED AROUND YOUR FAVOURITE FOODS

  • MEXICAN WITH MARY JANE

If you’re craving Mexican eats, serve up some ganja guacamole. Then, move on to crowd-pleasing cannabis tacos. Just remember to “taco ’bout” portions with your guests. We all know how easy it is to binge on these babies, and this is one time you don’t want to go overboard.

  • ITALIAN “HERBS” AND SPICES

Make your Italian grandmother proud with a creamy cannabis risotto. Grandma likes to blaze, right? If your guests have dietary restrictions, this pot pesto is both vegan and gluten-free. For a sweet finish, whip up some mouth-watering tiramisu.

  • AMERICAN (POT) PIE

It’s hard to go wrong with bud burgers and some good old-fashioned American apple pie. The great thing about burgers is you can make them last-minute by adding finely ground bud straight into the patties. There’s no need to prep an oil infusion beforehand (just remember to decarboxylate your weed).

ENHANCE YOUR DINNER PARTY WITH TERPENES

Cannabinoids such as THC and CBD are responsible for many of the effects of cannabis. However, terpenes play an arguably more important role when it comes to crafting food with weed. Terpenes are aromatic molecules responsible for the many tastes and smells associated with the cannabis plant. Every strain produces its own terpene profile based on its genetics and growing environment.

Cannabis is like a fine wine that tastes different depending on the grapes used. Research the strain you want to use before cooking with it. You’ll likely be able to find information about the main terpenes within the cultivar, how it tastes, and what smells stand out in the mix.

Selecting the right terpene profile goes beyond just taste. Cannabis science has discovered that terpenes play a fundamental role in the effects of a strain, synergising with cannabinoids to influence the high.

Let’s briefly get to know some of the primary terpenes in cannabis:

Myrcene is a mellow terpene that contributes a sedating effect.
Limonene is a citrusy terpene that elevates the mood and invigorates the senses.
Caryophyllene is a terpene and “dietary cannabinoid” known for its potential to reduce pain.

Be sure to select a strain rich in the terpenes you’re after. Serve your guests a side dish of pre-rolled joints if they want an even higher dose of featured terps.

CANNABIS STRAIN AND FOOD COMBINATIONS TO GET YOU STARTED

Are you feeling confused about where to start? We get it. There are hundreds of strains, around 100 terpenes, and endless food options. Use the combinations below as surefire crowd-pleasers that will leave your guests feeling satisfied every time. Each one of these offerings will fill their bellies and blow their minds. Here too, you can feature terpenes in their full glory by smoking each strain alongside each meal, or by infusing it directly.

LEMON SHINING SILVER HAZE AND CHICKEN

Lemon and chicken is a timeless combination; it’s also a popular Chinese dish. Add an extra hit of citrus to your dish by incorporating Lemon Shining Silver Haze. This sativa-dominant hybrid houses sweet and spicy tastes, along with a hint of pepper. Her intense cerebral high will get the conversation flowing and stoke the appetite of your guests. Just make them aware of her 21% THC level so they know what they’re getting themselves into.

Lemon Shining Silver Haze

ROYAL COOKIES AND CURED MEAT

Cured meat is a delicious and rich food high in protein. It’s scrumptious on its own, but many recipes call for the addition of spices or sugar to enhance the taste. Hitting a strain such as Royal Cookies between each bite will light up the palate with flavours of sugar, cookies, and intense sweetness. This indica-dominant specimen also slams the body with a sedating high powered by a THC level of 23%. Serve up some espresso shots with dessert to counter the sleepy effects.

Royal Cookies

PINEAPPLE KUSH AND PIZZA

Pineapple on pizza is a controversial topping. You either love it or hate it. However, there are not many people who won’t love the addition of Pineapple Kush. This stoning indica strain delivers sweet tastes of tropical fruits that complement the savoury ingredients in the pizza. The more you smoke, the hungrier you’ll become. A THC level of 18% and unabating munchies mean there won’t be a crumb left over.

Pineapple Kush

WHITE WIDOW AND SWEET DESSERTS

It’s true that weed enhances the senses. It makes music sound better, lights appear brighter, and the most mundane food taste spectacular. White Widow is an excellent strain to make the taste buds hypersensitive. A few tokes of this legendary hybrid will prime the tongue for some sweet treats. Prepare for an explosion of flavour as you chow down on chocolate, cake, or ice cream.

White Widow

LEGENDARY OG PUNCH AND COFFEE

Cannabis and coffee have a push-pull relationship. They’re almost opposing forces. But the stimulation of coffee and the relaxation of cannabis can give rise to a comfortable equilibrium. A fresh cup of coffee can help to fight off post-meal fatigue, and a few tokes of Legendary OG Punch will smooth off the jittery edges. This hybrid delivers a swift blow of sedation to the cranium. What’s more, tastes of sweet fruits define every hit. Infuse Legendary OG Punch coconut oil into your brew for a sustained lift.

Legendary OG Punch

CANNABIS DINNER PARTY TOP TIPS

Of course, food is the centrepiece of the occasion! But, it’s important to cover all your bases to ensure everyone has a good experience. Follow the tips below to host a flawless night!

GET YOUR DOSES RIGHT

We’ve all been burned by super-potent edibles at some point, and improper dosing could turn your delicacies into disasters. Luckily, a little preparation and communication are all it takes to avoid this particular pitfall. When cooking with cannabis, make sure you pay attention to the THC content of the strains you use. Be as precise as possible and measure what you’re putting in at every step. When in doubt, use this handy guide to calculate the potency of your dishes. You should also talk with your guests about what to expect before dinner is served. Letting people make informed choices will lead to the best possible experience for everyone.

PREPARATION IS KEY

You’ll need to prepare thoroughly to ensure your dishes are fully psychoactive! Make sure all of your plant material and extracts have been properly decarbed. People haven’t come just for the food; they want to get baked in the process. If you’re making burgers or similar recipes, it’ll help to grind all of your weed beforehand. It’s little tips like these that simplify the process.

Preparing well also means you get to have fun too! Chances are you’re going to be as baked as the guests. It’ll put a downer on your high if you realise you forgot to make enough of a particular dish or run out of weed. Make sure you’ve completed everything so you have time to relax too. Cook everything you need, wash up, top-up on dank weed, and create a long music playlist. With all the boxes ticked, it’s time to relax and have a good time.

DON’T FORGET THE DRINKS

Your guests are going to get thirsty. It doesn’t take long for cottonmouth to set in. Prepare a good selection of beverages for your guests to enjoy, and a suitable strain for them to enjoy it with. We’ve already covered coffee, but what about pairing some strains with wine? Fruit Spirit will go down well with a fresh rosé.

WHAT CANNABIS PAIRINGS HAVE YOU DISCOVERED?

Before you start cooking up delicious dishes and pairing them with strains, you’ll need to experiment. Acquaint your palate with some of the tastiest cannabis strains around while you perfect your recipes. Eventually, you’ll find out exactly which terpene profiles work best with each meal. Once you’re confident that your cannabis matches you’re cuisine, it’s time to invite your friends over!

Legal Cannabis In Canada: One Year Later (2020 update)

In 2018, it seemed Canada was to become cannabis Mecca. But a year following legalization, The Great White North has far from perfected its approach to legal weed. Read on for our full review of legal weed in Canada.

CANADA AND CANNABIS: ONE YEAR LATER

On October 17th, 2018, Canada became the second country in the world, and the first G7 and G20 nation, to fully legalize and regulate cannabis. And while Canada might be the envy of cannabis users the world over, the road to legalization was pretty rocky.

After being elected Prime Minister in 2015, Justin Trudeau created the Task Force on Marijuana Legalization and Regulation to begin the process of analysing and discussing a way to create a legal and regulated market for cannabis. Trudeau’s main reasons for legalizing weed in Canada were to combat the “criminal elements” involved in the illegal trade of cannabis and to better protect minors “from the easy access they have right now to marijuana”.

After announcing his plans for legalizing cannabis in 2016, a number of illegal dispensaries popped up around the country. In response, Trudeau urged police to enforce the law and prosecute businesses or individuals growing and producing cannabis prior to legalization, resulting in a number of raids and prosecutions.

Finally, cannabis became legal in Canada on October 17, 2018 under the Cannabis Act. The act detailed strict regulations of who can buy and sell cannabis, and gave provincial and First Nations governments a number of freedoms for governing the distribution of weed themselves.

HOW HAS CANNABIS LEGALIZATION CHANGED ATTITUDES AND BEHAVIOUR?

In order to track the effects of legalization, the Canadian government released its first National Cannabis Survey in 2019.

The study highlights a number of changes since legalization, including a rise in the number of people consuming cannabis. Statistics Canada suggests that some of these new users were first-time users, while others were former users who tried cannabis again following legalization. Most of these new users were older, with half aged over 45 years.

The study also showed that legalization didn’t increase the number of underage people consuming cannabis, nor the number of people driving impaired under the influence of weed (two major concerns among prohibitionists opposing legalization). In fact, the National Cannabis Survey showed that, in many aspects, cannabis use across Canada remained unchanged following legalization.

WHAT POSITIVE IMPACTS HAS LEGAL CANNABIS HAD ON CANADA?

In general, the effects of legalizing weed in Canada have been overwhelmingly positive. First and foremost, the move to legalize cannabis created a billion-dollar industry. In the first two weeks following legalization, Canadian cannabis sales were already worth over $43 million.

Over the first 10 months following legalization, the legal cannabis industry in the country grew by over 185%. In Q1 and Q2 of 2019, the industry contributed over $8 billion to the country’s GDP, and expert economists estimated the new industry could come to be worth up to $20 billion. Canada is also home to some of the biggest cannabis companies in the world, including Canopy Growth Corp (market cap $12.4 billion), Aurora Cannabis ($10.61 billion), and Aphria Inc. ($3.64 billion).

WHAT POSITIVE IMPACTS HAS LEGAL CANNABIS HAD ON CANADA?

Arguably the biggest benefit of legalizing cannabis in Canada is its effect on organised crime. By tightly regulating the market for cannabis, the Canadian government has stopped prosecuting citizens for possessing and consuming cannabis (a drug with fewer serious health risks than alcohol or tobacco) while taking millions of dollars out of the hands of criminal organisations.

WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE TO IMPROVE THE LEGAL CANNABIS INDUSTRY IN CANADA?

While Canada definitely seems light-years ahead of other Western nations in its stance on cannabis, its approach to legalization is far from perfect.

One thing that sets Canada behind, for example, is its stance on some cannabis derivatives. For the entire first year of legalization, Canadians had no access to cannabis edibles or topicals. These products were legalized on October 17, 2019, but still haven’t hit the shelves in some places. At the time of writing this article, the Ontario Cannabis Store only stocks a single edible product.

Another major problem of Canada’s system concerns accessibility; Ontario, Canada’s most populous province, is completely void of retail cannabis stores. Instead, Ontarians have to order their weed online from the Ontario Cannabis Store, which has a notoriously bad reputation for high prices, delayed shipping, and extremely dry flower. With the only retailer in the province providing that kind of service, the black market for cannabis isn’t going anywhere.

CANADA’S LEGAL CANNABIS MARKET: 2020 AND BEYOND

Canada’s decision to legalize weed was one of the first of its kind. However, its approach is still far from perfect. In some provinces, Canadians are still eagerly awaiting edibles and topicals to become available, and the entire province of Ontario still has to buy its weed from one very poorly performing online store.

Nonetheless, we do have to praise Canada for making the decision to legalize cannabis on a federal level, something no other Western country has done yet. And, thanks to its efforts, cannabis use is finally starting to be destigmatised in one of the largest nations in the world.

Does Cannabis Affect Men And Women Differently?

Does Cannabis Affect Men And Women Differently?

Source: https://www.royalqueenseeds.com

This is a blog article from .royalqueenseeds.com

The effects of cannabis are pretty predictable, yet a lot of factors can influence its final result on the body. Likewise, many factors can influence our cannabis habits, and one of them appears to be sex.

DOES SEX INFLUENCE THE EFFECTS OF CANNABIS?

The prevalence of cannabis use differs slightly between men and women. Young men tend to use cannabis more than young women, and this ratio increases further among adults. Patterns of use also differ based on sex and gender roles. Researchers are trying to pinpoint how sex hormones influence mammals’ sensitivity to psychotropic substances, cannabis included, while the variation in cannabis use among men and women in different countries suggests an environmental and cultural influence. Besides hormones, there are other potential sex-related factors driving our cannabis use.

HOW DOES CANNABIS USE DIFFER BETWEEN MEN AND WOMEN?

Men seem more prone to using psychotropic substances than women, and in larger quantities. When it comes to cannabis, men usually report more intense effects than women, and are more likely to develop some sort of dependence. As with any other substance, both genetic and environmental factors play a role in cannabis use patterns. Although it’s clear that genetic factors can increase or decrease our risk of abuse, there is no evidence of specific gene variants that alter cannabinoid sensitivity.

At Yale School of Medicine, gender-sensitive treatments for tobacco dependence discovered that in men, the rewarding effects of nicotine play a more important role than in women, who appear to smoke more to reduce stress. In men, dopamine is released in a part of the brain associated with reward and reinforcement. In women, dopamine tends to be released in an area associated with behaviours in response to negative inputs. Cannabinoids work differently than nicotine, yet the result of this research might hint at a broader phenomenon. Indeed, other research indicates that women are more likely to use cannabis for “functional reasons” such as pain and anxiety control.

WHY DOES CANNABIS AFFECT MEN DIFFERENTLY THAN WOMEN?

Research supports the possibility of a dimorphic effect of cannabinoids based on sex hormones. The endocannabinoid system’s close interaction with sex hormones provides a biological foundation for sexual differences in behaviours related to reward and well-being that drive cannabis use patterns. CB1 receptor density can be altered by sex hormones, which can also modulate levels of endocannabinoids and their metabolising enzymes. Moreover, the recent discovery that pregnenolone, the precursor of all steroid hormones, can directly modulate cannabinoid receptor activation supports the concept of a tight link[1] between sex hormones and the endocannabinoid system.

HOW DOES CANNABIS AFFECT WOMEN?

Many women report enhanced sensations and confidence after using cannabis. As a side effect, it appears that girls are more likely to suffer temporary visual alterations and memory impairments after using cannabis than boys. Furthermore, a 2015 study[2] by researchers at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine aimed to understand the difference in cannabis withdrawal symptoms between men and women. Women reported more symptoms and a higher overall level of discomfort than men, suffering from typical symptoms such as irritability, restlessness, and gastrointestinal discomfort.

Studies on rats show that the hormone estradiol can modulate the endocannabinoid system, whose feedback then influences estradiol production. Female rats have different levels of endocannabinoids and more sensitive receptors than males in key areas of the brain related to control of movement, social behaviour, and filtering of sensory input, with significant changes along the menstrual cycle.

Interactions between the endocannabinoid system and the brain’s production of dopamine are therefore sex-dependent, and consequently might also influence the cannabinoid-induced feelings of “pleasure” and “reward”. Other experiments have found the pain-relieving effects of THC to be more effective in female rats as well. However, they need higher doses of THC than male rats over time to obtain the same effects.

HOW DOES CANNABIS AFFECT MEN?

Regardless of the influence of hormone cycles, it has been shown that CB1 receptor availability is lower in males. These quantitative differences in the endocannabinoid system might contribute to differences in effects and usage patterns between males and females. Moreover, the metabolic breakdown of cannabis itself may differ between the two.

It seems that men don’t need cannabis tolerance breaks as often as women do, and they might experience less pronounced withdrawal symptoms than women. On a possibly negative side, high levels of THC may temporarily result in low levels of testosterone, and exactly how cannabis affects sexual stimulation in men is debated. Both natural and synthetic male sex hormones increase risk-taking behaviour, thus we might argue that cannabis is actually useful in calming down some of boys’ risky attitudes. At the same time, compulsive cannabis use in males might also derive from these hormone-driven behaviours.

THERE IS STILL A LOT TO LEARN ABOUT CANNABIS’ EFFECTS ON MEN AND WOMEN

These preliminary scientific results help us understand potential differences in the effects and usage patterns of cannabis among men and women. We just don’t know exactly why, or how, to benefit from this distinction—at least not yet.

Controlled human studies are still very limited. Most of the sex differences[3] you may find are likely to be influenced by external factors. However, the gap between men’s and women’s social, medical, and personal use of cannabis[4] is shrinking, and we expect more research on this issue to come to light soon. Today, all we can theorise is that the mechanisms driving these differences reside in the availability of cannabinoid receptors, in metabolising processes, in hormones, or in a combination of the three.

Although anecdotal evidence claims that boys show a more compulsive use of psychotropic substances than girls, this hasn’t prevented women from gaining major leadership roles within the cannabis industry—but that’s another story.

Is it possible to overdose on cannabis?

Is it possible to overdose on cannabis?

Source: https://www.royalqueenseeds.com

This is a blog article from .royalqueenseeds.com

If you grew up somewhere with conservative drug views, you probably got a good talking-to about marijuana’s supposed dangers. During these warnings, it’s likely your teachers or parents brought up the potential of overdosing. The second that point comes up in discussions about weed nowadays, arguments are sure to get flung back and forth like cafeteria food in a high school movie.

It doesn’t have to be that way, though. There are clear answers, but we have to be aware of how we’re using the term “overdose”. After we clear that up, we just have to know how much is too much of a good thing.

CAN YOU OVERDOSE ON CANNABIS?

While you might associate overdosing only with drugs, you can overdose on basically anything. Had too much coffee? You could overdose. Too much water? Overhydration is a very real threat. Being able to overdose on something, though, does not mean the overdose is lethal. To keep it simple, as is the case with any substance, there is such a thing as too much cannabis. In that sense, an overdose is possible, but a lethal dose is very hard to reach—if at all.

WHAT IS A LETHAL DOSE OF CANNABIS?

How hard to reach, you wonder? Well, to hit the pearly gates, you’d need to smoke about 1,500 pounds (680kg) of cannabis in a blistering 15 minutes. If you’re trying to do the maths on how many joints that would take, don’t bother. The effects of the smoke itself, and smoking to that aggressive degree, would kill you long before the THC would.

You can ingest more THC with edibles since there’s no smoke, but there’s more to consider. You’d still need to consume 50 grams of pure THC to have a 50% chance of dying as an adult man. Even with the most potent edibles, you’re more likely to die from the excessive sugar and salt consumption.

Over

HOW TO SPOT WHEN YOU’RE TOO HIGH

So no, you won’t die. However, you’re not out of the woods yet. As many first-year university students will tell you, bad stuff can definitely happen when you smoke too much. To play off the old expression, what doesn’t kill you makes you really uncomfortable. There are specific discomforts to look out for, too, with some being more obvious than others.

If you’re familiar with weed’s effects, fatigue is probably one of the first symptoms you’d expect. There’s a difference between melting into the couch, of course, and falling asleep standing still. If you’re feeling closer to the latter, you might need to give in to temptation and sleep it off. Thankfully, no matter how much you smoke, the effects will only linger for a few hours at most. And hey, who doesn’t like a good 4–12-hour nap once in a while?

Speaking of symptoms you could predict, impaired movement is a good one to mention. While it’s not nearly as bad as what other substances cause, you’ll still be slumping and stumbling around. Forget being able to drive; even walking will be an interesting challenge. You’ll also feel your heartbeat getting faster and faster, with your blood pressure dropping in turn.

Lastly, perhaps the least pleasant of the symptoms, anxiety and paranoia are very likely to strike when you’re too high. Everyone’s brain works differently, of course, but THC has been proven to put certain people in those mindsets, and it only gets more likely as you take more.

HOW TO OVERCOME BEING TOO HIGH

As we mentioned before, these effects aren’t ever too long-lasting, and you can combat them easily. If you have the time and opportunity, taking a snooze is the most foolproof way to get through the high. If not, you still have some strategies at hand. Getting some food in your belly, along with hydrating, will also help to ease your tension and make the high a bit more bearable.

What do you do if you have neither on hand? Well, unfortunately there’s no choice but to ride it out. If you’re feeling too paranoid and anxious to interact, just remove yourself from the crowd and get comfortable. From there, find your way home if you’re not already there (do NOT drive yourself), get some blankets, and take some deep breaths. Listen to some calming music if you can, and let it guide you to sleep.

And above all, remember that it’s temporary. It’ll definitely be uncomfortable, but it won’t last forever, and you’ll be fine by the next day.

SMOKING TOO MUCH WEED ISN’T LETHAL, BUT THERE ARE SIDE EFFECTS

As it goes with all good things, you can always end up having too much. Just because too much cannabis won’t kill you doesn’t mean it won’t be a bad time. We don’t want to feel hyper-fatigued and paranoid, and we’re sure you don’t either. With that in mind, just make sure to enjoy the electric lettuce, like everything else, in moderation.

Some final tips: If you live somewhere that sells legal cannabis, talk with the budtenders at your dispensary or coffeeshop. They’ve heard every praise and grievance about their products. If you want to know whether a few hits of a strain will have you curled up in the corner, just ask! Based on your smoking habits, they can recommend you something with the perfect THC content. If you aren’t buying from a dispensary, though, and don’t know the THC content, just have a little at first. If those hits go over smoothly, have a few more, and feel it out from there. It’s that simple. Trust your body, trust your instincts, and you’ll never fail.

Can Cannabis Improve Sex? Everything You Need To Know

While the two have often been connected, we were once unsure of whether cannabis positively impacted sex or not. If you relied on personal anecdotes, you would surely hear plenty of opinions from both sides of the issue, but no certain conclusions. Now, however, we have the power of science on our side. Emerging over the past couple of years, multiple studies have come out in support of cannabis as an aid to sexual enhancement or stimulation.

DOES CANNABIS MAKE FOR BETTER SEX?

The idea of “better” sex is subjective, of course, but it’s hard to argue with numbers. What do we mean by this, you wonder? We’ll walk you through the details in this article.

CANNABIS USE AND FEMALE SEX DRIVE

For the ladies, there’s a lot of enjoyment to be found in toking before poking. This is, at least, according to research[1] published in The Journal of Sexual Medicine. In a study comparing women who used cannabis before sex to those who refused cannabis, researchers found the former group to be twice as likely to report reaching orgasm. The sex isn’t just better, either; it’s more frequent[2], too. In another study from The Journal of Sexual Medicine, researchers found women who used cannabis to have sex far more often than women who had never tried it. While this doesn’t guarantee the same effect for every woman, the positive association is clear.

CANNABIS USE AND MALE SEX DRIVE

It isn’t just women having all the fun, either. In the same study on sexual frequency mentioned above, researchers found men who used cannabis to experience a significant boost in coital activity compared to their non-smoking peers. Furthermore, for those who normally use pills like Viagra or Cialis for an extra boost, you don’t have to worry about marijuana conflicting with those effects. While no recent studies show whether weed improves orgasm rate, there isn’t as much literature on men struggling to reach climax.

CANNABIS USES IN SEX

Now, let’s get to the fun part. How can you use cannabis to enhance the sexual experience? Of course, we’re not just talking about the act itself, but everything surrounding it; from the decadence of a nice meal to the sensual foreplay of a massage.

DINNER DATE

Using cannabis during sex itself can be risky, but using it as a way to get the romantic juices flowing in general is a time-tested tool used by many. For example, it can be a great way to increase bonding time together—why not prepare a romantic meal? Get the candles out, pick the right playlist for the occasion, and allow yourself to be intimate and relaxed. Instead of garlic butter, why not add some homemade cannabutter to the mix? A simple and unobtrusive way to bring cannabis to the table, and you never know where dinner might lead!

COUCH DATE

Some heavy indica strains are known for their couch-lock properties that will leave you gazing longingly into the distance, an activity that can also be shared with your partner. Take advantage of these body-load strains and spend some time in each other’s arms or looking into each other’s eyes, as opposed to searching the cosmos.

Sex

NATURE DATE

Remember reading those lonely singles ads about enjoying long walks in the park as a means to show one’s sensitive side? Well, they might’ve just been marijuana smokers! Schedule a walk in an area you both enjoy—ideally the woods or something similarly serene. This way, you can marvel at the experience of being with your partner amongst the gorgeous scenery. Just don’t stray too far from the path…

MASSAGE DATE

The holy grail of dates. Let’s be honest—who doesn’t enjoy a massage session? You’re already halfway there with a distinct lack of clothes. Well, it turns out that cannabis users have hit the jackpot. It’s claimed that THC can help make female orgasms last 15 minutes, with the added benefit of being available in lubricant form. Whilst the effects are not guaranteed and vary depending on how you respond to cannabis, the process of applying the lubricant and its aromas are bound to do most of the work.

WHICH CANNABIS STRAINS MAKE FOR BETTER SEX?

Do you want to lose your inhibitions, or enhance your senses? Depending on what you desire, there are certain strains that are perfect for getting you in the zone before you get busy. Some of you might get nervous about your performance in the bedroom, and we don’t judge you one bit. To get rid of stage-fright, we’d suggest an indica-dominant hybrid like Kali Dog that will get you in a relaxed headspace, or a sativa like Shining Silver Haze that will have you feeling playful in no time. Sour Diesel, on the other hand, is a sativa that’ll have you feeling every touch on a deeper level; hybrid strains like Skunk XL, on the other hand, will give your libido a little extra kick.

BEST PRACTICES FOR HIGH SEX

There are a few tips you should keep in mind if you want the most mind-blowing high sex possible. Besides picking the right strain, of course, you should also watch how much you smoke. Remember, you’re enhancing the moment with cannabis, rather than making cannabis the focus of the moment. Along with that, if the strain you plan on using is new to you, take time to see how it affects your body. Once you’re comfortable there, though, keep things painless with a generous amount of lube, as the downstairs version of cotton-mouth is not unheard of. Oh, and if you were planning on doing edibles, sample them the night before you plan on doing anything. The high from those can be both unpredictable and long-lasting, so testing is the name of the game here.

And, of course, the most important part of any sexual encounter is consent, and this is especially true when psychoactive substances are thrown into the mix.

IS CBD GOOD FOR YOUR SEX LIFE?

For those who don’t like getting high, you might be wondering whether CBD has similar sexy benefits. Thankfully, you’re in luck! Not only has CBD been shown to improve energy and stamina in the bedroom—it’s been shown to sharpen one’s sense of touch as well. Along with all that, it may help relieve any pain that comes during the act. If you want to learn more about the benefits of CBD use before (and during) sex, feel free to check out our in-depth article on the topic.

WHAT ARE THE RISKS OF MIXING CANNABIS AND SEX?

As with any substance, the effects might not be fully positive. A 2011 study[3], for instance, found that prolonged cannabis use showed some connection to erectile dysfunction. Another study, performed one year earlier, found[4] that frequent use inhibited some men’s ability to achieve orgasm. The former study, however, cited animal and in vitro studies as primary examples, and the latter involved self-reporting via telephone survey, so the truth is unclear. Overall, though, until new studies suggest otherwise, the benefits seem to far outweigh the risks.

Cannabis Concentrates and Extracts: A Quick Introduction

Cannabis Concentrates and Extracts: A Quick Introduction

Source: https://www.royalqueenseeds.com

This is a blog article from .royalqueenseeds.com

Concentrates have completely changed the way we consume cannabis. Although some types of hash have been around for years, the market for extracts has completely exploded in recent years. As a result, there are all kinds of new concentrates on the market today, offering brand new flavours, potencies, and effects.

In this article, we’ll take a brief look at the various types of cannabis extracts, how they’re made, and how they differ.

WHAT ARE CANNABIS CONCENTRATES?

Cannabis concentrates, as the name suggests, are made by concentrating the chemical constituents (cannabinoids and terpenes) found in cannabis. There are many ways to do this, but they all involve separating the trichomes from cannabis flowers. These trichomes are the small, sticky crystals you’ll find covering buds, and contain all the chemicals that give cannabis its unique characteristics.

There are several different types of trichomes found on cannabis:

• Bulbous trichomes

These tiny trichomes are only between 25–30 microns tall and made up of only 1–4 cells. On mature plants, these trichomes will form a small bubble containing resin.

• Capitate-sessile trichomes

These trichomes are found in much higher numbers than bulbous trichomes. They are made up of roughly 8–16 cells and have a diameter of 25–100 microns.

• Capitate-stalked trichomes

Also known as glandular trichomes, these are the largest trichomes found on cannabis. They measure between 150–500 microns and are responsible for producing the majority of cannabinoids. These contribute the most to the production of extracts.

DIFFERENT TYPES OF CANNABIS CONCENTRATES

Concentrates arrive in many different forms, some of which are distinguished by their method of extraction, and others that differ based on texture alone. Let’s examine some of the most popular.

KIEF

Kief is the simplest cannabis extract to make. It involves using sieves to separate trichomes from dry cannabis buds to form a fine, golden powder. This can be performed on a small scale using a multi-chamber grinder, or on a larger scale using a screen.

DRY-SIFT HASH

Hash is most commonly made by collecting this sifted kief, then heating and pressing it into dark, chocolate-like blocks.

CHARAS

Charas (known colloquially as finger hash) is made by rubbing live cannabis buds between the hands. The friction separates the trichomes from the plant and forms a thick, dark resin on the palms. This is then collected and rolled into spheres or “snakes” for consumption.

BUBBLE HASH

Bubble hash is made using ice water, agitation, and specialised bubble bags to remove the trichomes from frozen cannabis buds. Working at cold temperatures helps remove more trichomes while preserving many of the terpenes that are lost at higher temperatures. Plus, using water is a lot cleaner than using propane or butane. Bubble hash can vary in quality based on the size of the mesh used to collect the trichomes. The finer the mesh, the higher the quality.

FULL-MELT EXTRACTS

Full-melt extracts have been around for a long time, and are considered by many to be the creme-de-la-creme of extracts. These are solventless extracts, meaning they aren’t made with propane, butane, or CO₂, and are instead made by dry sifting cannabis or using ice water (not considered a solvent here) to separate the trichomes from flower and trim.

Full-melt extracts will, you guessed it, melt completely into a puddle when you dab them, without any contaminants (like chlorophyll or wax) burning alongside them. Lower-grade extracts, on the other hand, will still vaporize but leave behind residue. Full-melt extracts require using a very fine mesh filter to achieve the right consistency.

BHO — SHATTER, BUDDER, CRUMBLE

Not long ago, BHO (butane hash oil) was the latest craze in the world of cannabis concentrates. It’s made using liquid butane to separate trichomes from dried cannabis buds. The butane is then cooked off slowly to leave behind a super-concentrated oil. BHO is sold under various different names, including wax, shatter, crumble, budder, and more. These terms simply describe the texture of the concentrate, which can range from brittle and glass-like (shatter) to thick and creamy (budder) to a dense, sandy texture (crumble)—and basically everything in between. Users select different types of BHO based on their preference and the method of consumption.

ROSIN

Rosin is a solventless extraction method that uses heat and pressure to extract a thick, golden resin from dried cannabis buds. The easiest way to do this is to wrap a bud in wax paper and press it in a hair straightener for a few seconds. The more professional way is to use a specialised press, which gives you more control over the pressure and temperature you’re using, resulting in a higher-grade product.

LIVE RESIN

Live resin, like BHO, uses a solvent to extract cannabinoids and terpenes from cannabis. The difference here is that live resin is made using fresh cannabis buds that are frozen right after harvest, rather than cured buds. The extraction also happens at below-freezing temperatures to create a super-rich extract, which then needs to cure for about two weeks. The result is an extremely potent extract that, like BHO, can have various different textures, and preserves many more terpenes and flavonoids than some of the other processes listed here.

CO₂ OIL

CO₂ extraction is by far the most advanced cannabis extraction method. It involves using supercritical CO₂ to extract cannabinoids and terpenes from cannabis buds. The resulting extract is then purged, producing a clean, golden oil treasured for its flavour and potency. The great thing about CO₂ is that it is a non-toxic solvent, and arguably produces some of the best commercial-grade results. That said, it is likely the most expensive method mentioned on this list.

OILS AND TINCTURES

Cannabis oils and tinctures are made by taking cannabis extract (usually CO₂ extract) and mixing it with carrier oils (like hemp seed and olive) or alcohol/glycerine. These supplements come in a variety of concentrations and may be specially formulated for a specific purpose or symptom.

6 Reasons You Should Consider Growing Your Own Cannabis

Regardless of whether the country you live in allows it or not, nowadays, growing cannabis has become increasingly more accepted within society. There are many reasons why you should consider growing your own cannabis. In this post, you’ll find out some of our favourites!

CANNABIS IS MORE ACCESSIBLE THAN EVER

Keep in mind that, on average, the whole vibe around this topic is way more relaxed than it used to be. Regardless of current restrictions on cannabis home-growing, we’ve come a long way from the days of unconditional prohibition. On top of that, more and more educational material has become available online, and in different formats. This is not only true of information on cannabis itself, but on how to grow it successfully at home! Hence, the time is ripe to consider growing your own weed. But, of course, the first, most crucial decision is which high-quality seeds you’re going to grow!

WHY YOU SHOULD CONSIDER GROWING YOUR OWN WEED

Besides accessibility, there are other reasons you should consider growing your own bud. By the end of this list, you’ll wonder why you hadn’t started already!

YOU HAVE FULL CONTROL

Knowing exactly what you are smoking and how it’s produced is always nice. In a time where it is still hard to track down where street-purchased weed comes from (not to mention how it’s handled and/or adulterated), this becomes more important than ever.

For sure, growing your own cannabis plant allows you full control over the whole process, from seed germination all the way to harvest, drying, curing, and, eventually, smoking. You will know exactly how your plants were grown, including crucial elements such as which fertilisers/nutrients were used (if at all). In this way, you will have full power over setting the quality standards of your grow-op.

YOU CAN EXPERIMENT

If you decide to grow your own cannabis, you can go wild with different growing methods and training techniques. Of course, it will depend on how much money you want, and can, invest. After all, different setups require different care and come with different associated costs. That said, if you’ve always wanted to try out hydroponics like you’ve seen online, or using a special training technique like topping or supercropping, growing at home allows you that opportunity!

On the other side of the coin, you can also experiment with different parts of the plant itself. Growing an entire specimen, not just the buds, gives you a lot of extra plant material to use. The sugar leaves, in particular, are loaded with trichomes and can be rendered into some fine hash or edibles. Even the less-cannabinoid-dense fan leaves can be used to make healthy green juices or as rolling papers for some authentic hemp roll-ups. Then, of course, if you have the time and energy, you can use regular seeds to breed your own cannabis cultivars. In other words, growing and processing weed allows you to be creative throughout the entire process.

YOU CAN EXPERIMENT

YOU SAVE MONEY

If you’re a regular smoker, for recreational or medicinal purposes, growing your own cannabis ultimately means saving A LOT of money. Even just one or two harvests can return your initial investment on equipment and energy. Not to mention, you’ll have a nice big stash that you can access whenever you like—no more meeting up with dealers in parking lots.

Of course, it will all depend on how much weed you consume on average, but even one or two plants grown at a time can supply you with a steady flow of weed that will cut back on your bud-related expenses big-time. Growing your own cannabis also means you’ll become progressively aware of the costs behind the process, such as energy, water, etc. In most cases, this will actually make you more careful in your consumption habits now that you know how much effort it takes.

IT’S FUN!

This may actually be the most important reason of all. If you enjoy doing something, it will always give you great pleasure, and you will begin to view difficulties as stimulating opportunities. In many ways, growing cannabis is like growing any other plant: it can be a nice, relaxing hobby. Along the way, you will learn a lot of diverse skills, from designing a full growing system to a bit of carpentry, as well as some skills as a plumber and electrician.

A good thing about this hobby is that you can start small, with just some good seeds and rich soil. Only if you feel your passion growing should you think of upgrading your toolkit. Furthermore, growing weed is beneficial for your health: it is a meditative, active hobby that’s good for both your body and mind, especially if you do so outdoors. Not to mention, you can pursue such a hobby at almost any age and in almost any conditions.

IT’S EASIER THAN YOU THINK, AND DISCREET

It’s not by mistake that cannabis is also known as “weed”: this plant species is truly easier to grow than you think. It is quite hardy and resilient, and can withstand even abrupt changes in conditions without giving up. Of course, things vary a lot from one strain to another. For instance, growing North Thunderfuck will definitely be different than taking care of Amnesia Haze! So, do your research before purchasing a particular seed and make sure your desired strain is suitable for your climate, as well as the amount of time and care you are willing to dedicate.

As usual, it is best to start small, and then pick up your game, aiming a bit higher every time. Another aspect to keep in mind is that, even though cannabis is a robust, hardy specimen, the end result will vary a lot depending on how good of a parent you are. You don’t just want your cannabis plant to survive the growing cycle; you want it to thrive and produce an amazing assortment of bulbous buds.

YOU RECONNECT WITH NATURE

Taking care of your own weed means getting the chance to observe a beautiful, albeit slow, maturation process. Taking the time to get a closer look at your plant throughout each stage of growth will only help you learn how it develops, and what it requires, throughout each phase.

Observation is only one element of the learning process, though! You need to respond to your plant’s behaviour and stage of growth, which sometimes means not doing anything at all; other times, it means having the confidence to take action against threats like nutrient deficiency and disease. Overall, as a grower, you become invested in the life cycle of your plant. When smoking the final product, you’ll know that part of you is in that bud too; time to be a proud parent!

YOU RECONNECT WITH NATURE

MUCH MORE WHERE THAT CAME FROM

As so much information is available today, you can explore many different aspects of growing cannabis following your inclination and curiosity. From plant physiology and taxonomy to training and hydroponics, you won’t soon run out of topics to explore.

Even if you don’t want to actively research, you will learn a lot just by doing. By picking different cannabis strains or changing the environmental conditions of your grow, you will see this fascinating plant species behave differently. Try to keep track of your findings and observations in a notebook, like a gardener’s diary, and document the process by taking some pictures, too. Going back to all of this afterward will not only be satisfactory, but very beneficial to the whole learning process.

Hash vs Weed: Here’s How To Tell The Difference

If you’re new to the world of cannabis, you might think weed and hash are two interchangeable words used to describe the same thing. But they’re not. Below, we’ll walk you through the differences.

WHAT IS WEED?

Weed refers to dried cannabis. In most parts of the world, weed is made up of cannabis flowers that have been dried and cured, and are ready to smoke, vaporize, cook, or turn into some kind of concentrate. In some regions of the world (like South America and Southeast Asia, for example), you’ll still find “brick weed”, which usually contains buds, stems, leaves, and seeds, all compressed into a hard, dark block.

There are countless strains of cannabis out there, and they all produce unique effects. Since the 1980s, cannabis growers have started breeding and manipulating these strains to produce unique varieties with different aromas, flavours, and effects. Sativa varieties tend to produce a more uplifting, euphoric high, while indica varieties are thought to produce more relaxing, mellow effects. But keep in mind that the effects of a strain come down to its chemical makeup, not its genetic lineage.

Hash vs Weed

WHAT IS HASH?

Hash (or hashish), on the other hand, refers to a cannabis extract made by separating the resin from buds (and/or sugar leaves). There are many different ways to make hash, but they all involve separating the trichomes and pressing them into a block, ball, cylinder, or coin. The result is a strong concentrate with unique flavour and effects.

Some of the most traditional forms of hash come from Afghanistan, Morocco, and India. Afghan and Moroccan hash were traditionally made by running dried cannabis through fine sieves. The gentle friction would separate the trichomes from the dried plant material to make kief, which would then be heated and pressed to produce dark, creamy, and very potent blocks of hash.

In India, on the other hand, hash was produced differently. Here, people would take live cannabis buds and roll them between their hands. The heat and friction would cause trichomes to separate from the actual plant material and create a thick, dark resin on the hands. This would then be rolled into balls and sold as charas.

Other forms of hash include rosin, bubble hash, and BHO, the latter two of which are made using solvents.

RELATED STORY

How to Make Hash

HOW DO HASH AND WEED COMPARE?

Now that you understand the difference between hash and weed, here’s an overview of how they differ in terms of preparation, flavour, effects, potency, and use.

PREPARATION

Weed is prepared by growing female cannabis plants, waiting for them to flower, keeping them from being pollinated by males, and harvesting their buds at peak ripeness. Today, most weed is grown indoors using specialised lights, ventilation systems, and nutrients to help maximise a female cannabis plant’s ability to produce resin.

After about 8–12 weeks of flowering (depending on the strain), female plants are cut down, and the buds are dried for about two weeks before being placed into jars for curing. This process is vital because it helps the buds mature and maximises potency and flavour.

Hash can be prepared in a multitude of ways, but they all involve separating the trichomes from cannabis buds and binding them together. The simplest and most traditional ways to make hash are those used by people in Morocco and India (which we mentioned earlier). Rosin hash, on the other hand, is made by pressing cannabis flowers using a hot press or hair straighteners to extract a rich, golden resin. Meanwhile, bubble hash uses ice water and physical agitation to separate the trichomes, and BHO uses butane.

HASH WEED
  • 10 – 15 minutes
  • 10 – 16 weeks

FLAVOUR

There’s a stark difference in the taste of weed and hash. Whereas weed tends to have more fresh, herbal, and sometimes fruity flavours and aromas, hash tends to be complex, rich, and spicy. Keep in mind that the flavours of hash and weed will vary depending on what strain was used to create them. The flavour of hash also varies greatly based on the way it’s produced.

HASH WEED
  • Complex, rich, and spicy
  • Fresh, herbal, and fruity

POTENCY

Hash is much more potent than weed. Most cannabis strains on the market today produce between 15–30% THC. Because hash is made by compounding a ton of trichomes together, it can reach potencies of 40, 50, or even 60%. Again, the exact potency of weed or hash will vary from one strain to the next, and will also come down to the style of hash-making utilised. Today, BHO tends to be the most potent type of hash out there, reaching over 90% THC.

HASH WEED
  • 40, 50, or even 60% THC
  • 15–30% THC

USE

This is where weed and hash have more in common. Both can be smoked, vaporized, or used in edibles. Weed flowers, however, can also be used to make concentrates, whereas hash doesn’t work here.

HASH WEED
  • Smoked, vaporized, or used in edibles
  • Smoked, vaporized, edibles and concentrates

QUALITY FIRST, ALWAYS

Whether you prefer weed or hash doesn’t matter—both offer a unique and enjoyable experience. Whichever you choose, however, always make sure to source your weed or hash from quality producers using the best genetics. Or better yet, grow your own weed and make your own hash at home using our top-shelf seeds!
